Good reasons for a national CSR strategy

CSR benefits society

When enterprises shoulder responsibility, this is a gain for society. It means training more than is necessary for their own companies. Giving a chance to young people who have difficulties. Shouldering responsibility means ensuring that no pollutants escape at the production location and that the environment is not contaminated. It means respecting workers. Not immediately making them redundant, even if it would be legally possible, but seeking alternative solutions. It means for instance offering a company kindergarten and flexible working hours models for better reconciliation of families and careers.

CSR is therefore a gain for society, both in Germany and in international locations. Shouldering voluntary responsibility is a possibility for giving globalisation a social face. CSR is an opportunity to shape social change through globalisation and other developments according to our values and rules before others impose their standards on us. Policy-makers alone can adopt international agreements, and hence prescribe a framework. Thereafter, the standards can only be implemented through responsible action on the part of enterprises. This can make CSR something special: The social dimension of globalisation.
