The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs is family-friendly
The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has successfully faced up to the berufundfamilie® (work and family) audit. The recent award of the basic certificate confirms that the Ministry has drawn up measures to implement family-friendly personnel policies which are to be implemented in the next three years
The berufundfamilie® audit was launched by the charitable Hertie Foundation in order to provide particular support for those who are faced with special challenges at work and in their families. As a strategic management tool, it is to show enterprises, institutions, authorities and higher education institutes how they can bring employers' goals and workers' interests into a fruitful balance.
The Ministry already offers family-friendly working conditions to its roughly 1,000 employees. Adaptable flexitime arrangements, all forms of part-time work, parent-child rooms and counselling provided by a family service operator are only a selection of the measures available. Further measures are to follow, such as the increased consideration of demographic aspects in staff development and the introduction of regular information events for employees who are on leave. Furthermore, managers are to be made more aware of the family obligations of their staff.
All in all, the reconciliation of work and family for women and men is to be expanded and developed further in the coming three years. The practical implementation of the measures is audited annually by berufundfamilie gGmbH. The latter offers to agree upon further goals after three years in the context of a re-audit.
With the berufundfamilie® audit, the Ministry provides an active contribution to a family-friendly policy of the Federal Government. The Ministry will call on the authorities of its subordinate area to make use of the berufundfamilie® audit.
