Alliance 8.7
Alliance 8.7 is a multi-stakeholder alliance launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2016 to achieve the goals set out in the United Nations' 2030 Agenda 2030. It is committed to the global fight against forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour.
In particular, Alliance 8.7 has set itself the goal of supporting governments in achieving goal 8.7 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 8.7 includes the eradication of child labour by 2025 and ending human trafficking and forced labour by 2030. It is specifically committed to
- accelerating measures to eliminate forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour;
- better coordinating research, data collection and the exchange of knowledge; and
- promoting innovation and the increase and better use of resources.
The initiative also aims to help advance other sustainable development goals that address poverty, education, gender equality, decent work, inequality, peace and justice.
Germany plays a pioneering role in Alliance 8.7
In keeping with the International Year for the Elimination Child Labour 2021, Germany’s Federal Government pledged to take more responsibility in the fight against child labour and to become an Alliance 8.7 Pathfinder Country. The Alliance has 25 such countries, including France and the Netherlands. Pathfinder countries have committed themselves to pursuing Sustainable Development Goal 8.7 with particular vigour in cooperation with other countries and to ensuring that it is a focus of their policymaking.
