Commitment of the Federal Government
The first action area under the National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights describes the state’s duty to protect human rights. This includes both the government’s duty to protect human rights in its own activities and its duty to support companies as they implement their due diligence obligations.
The Federal Government is committed to ambitious implementation of the UN Guiding Principles at various levels and by various means. In this connection, it makes use of cooperation with stakeholders in order to strengthen corporate responsibility in supply chains. Information on the Federal Government's commitment
The state's duty to protect
States must guarantee protection against human rights violations in their territory. States are thus also obliged to demand the compliance with human rights on the part of business enterprises.
Activities of the Federal Government
The Federal Government will strengthen sustainability issues such as human rights due diligence in public procurement, in the promotion of enterprises and in publicly owned enterprises.
Cooperation with stakeholders
For implementation of the National Action Plan the Federal Government has appointed an Interministerial Committee on Business and Human Rights. The Working Group on Business and Human Rights of the Federal Government National CSR Forum supports the activities of the this Interministerial Committee.
